FIRE CHIEF

The City of Harrisonville is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Fire Chief.

The Fire Chief of Harrisonville, MO is responsible to plan, direct and review the activities and operations of the Harrisonville Emergency Services Department.

The Fire Chief supervises the planning, operation, and administration of firefighting, emergency medical services, fire inspections, loss prevention, safety, fire service activities and emergency management, in the municipality. The Fire Chief also provides overall direction for the department, establishes policies procedures and regulations and develops annual budget and controls expenditures.

SALARY: The salary range for this position is $83,432 to $108,462, depending on qualifications.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    A bachelor’s degree in fire science, emergency medical services or a related field.  A master’s degree or possessing the designation of Executive Fire Officer (NFA), Chief Fire Officer (CPSE) or similar certifications are preferred.  

    A thorough understanding of and demonstrated experience in NIMS and ICS type incidents and activations is preferred.

    A minimum of 10 years’ experience and demonstrated leadership in a progressive Fire/EMS service command position in a department of equal or greater size and responsibility.

    Thorough knowledge of operational characteristics services and activities of comprehensive fire suppression, fire prevention, technical services and administrative programs, and emergency medical and ambulance services including high-angle or aerial rescue, water rescue, extrication, confined space rescue, trench and building collapse rescues, and hazardous materials response.  

    The successful candidate will also have experience with the technical and administrative aspects of emergency medical and ambulance services, fire suppression, fire prevention, technical services, and administration.  

    An innovative, collaborative, and experienced fire medical professional with demonstrated public safety leadership experience and successes who also excels in the areas of strategic planning, management, interpersonal communication, emergency management, community risk reduction, and customer service.  

    Demonstrated success in the areas of team building and working within a similar department structure.  

    Participative and engaging communicator that has the ability to bring fresh ideas and vision to the organization, has a high-level of energy, with a versatile approach to interacting with the community, city officials, staff and other stakeholders.  

    Demonstrated ability to be transparent, objective, adaptable, flexible, and visible along with the being relationship oriented and can build trust with both internal and external stakeholders.

    A person that understands the need for, and how to use, data for problem solving, community risk reduction efforts, and effective community education and engagement. 

    The ability and desire to coach and mentor staff to foster personal growth and leadership talent.

    The successful candidate must be willing to take up primary residence in Cass County, MO within 18 months of hire date.

POLICE OFFICER 

The City of Harrisonville, MO is seeking applicants to join our team of 25 police professionals. 

Candidates must possess or be able to obtain Missouri POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. Applicants will be required to pass a series of written examinations, CVSA, extensive background investigation, oral review board, physical, psychological evaluation, eye exam, and pre-employment drug screen.

We offer a competitive pay ranges beginning at $49,952.14 (Cadet pay scale is reduced until completion of POST certification) as well as a benefit package that includes:

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (DISPATCHER)

Harrisonville Police Department is now accepting applications for a full-time Communications Officer (Dispatch). 

Applicants must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED. Applicants will be required to undergo a CVSA examination, extensive background investigation, oral review board, and post offer pre-employment drug screen. 

This position requires the ability to handle multiple duties at once. Must be able to simultaneously hear and understand phone and radio traffic via headset or external speakers. Must be able to make quick and accurate decisions based on policy and protocol. Must be able to think outside the box when presented with a unique situation. This position requires the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding sensitive information. Must be able to maintain composure and control of self and voice under high pressure situations. Must be able to arrive to work on time and stay for the duration of your shift, or until your relief arrives. Must be able to work all shifts to include swing shifts, overnights, holidays, and weekends. Additionally, this position requires you to be subject to mandatory overtime. Must be able to work with background noise and frequent interruptions. 

Desirable qualifications to work in a 9-1-1 dispatch center are typing, telephone skills, and verbal/written communication skills.

FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC

POSITION SUMMARY: Harrisonville, Missouri is a 4th class city located 30 miles south of Kansas City, Missouri with a population of approximately 10,000. Harrisonville Emergency Services is a department with up to date equipment with state of the art EMS equipment. Currently employee’s 21 full time personnel including command staff that performs the challenging work of emergency medical care, fire suppression, fire prevention and rescue. The fire department operates a 24 hour Modified Berkley Schedule. The department operates one ALS engine, and two fully staffed ALS ambulances from one station.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responds to emergency situations and incident to suppress fires, affect rescues/extrications, participated in searches, mitigate hazardous materials and perform other duties as assigned and capable.

• Operate firefighting tools, aerial equipment, emergency medical equipment, extrication and rescue equipment and a variety of related tools and vehicles.

• Provide basic and advanced life support and emergency medical care.

• Participates in on-going technical and physical training to maintain certifications.

• Cleans and performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to department facilities.

• Participates in fire prevention and safety education/promotional events. Conducts station tours and gives presentations and demonstrates the use of the fire suppression and safety equipment.

• Assists in documenting incident and provides incident information to appropriate agencies and supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The city will send selected individuals to Firefighter I & II Training if necessary.

Required Qualifications:

•Possession of a valid state driver’s license

•High school diploma or equivalent.

•Paramedic Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• Vocational/technical training in firefighting and emergency medical treatment with two years of firefighting and paramedic experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Possession of EMT-P certification, Firefighter I & II, hazardous materials operation, advanced life support, and basic life support certifications (ACLS, PALS, BTLS, CPR-Health Care Provider).

Starting pay ranges from $51,583.70 to $69,800.

SEASONAL PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKERS 

Staff will perform a range of manual tasks including semi-skilled and skilled work, equipment operations and park maintenance duties to maintain a safe, clean, and user-friendly environment for park users. 

Responsible for park mowing, weed eating and trimming. Assist with the assembly of playgrounds and similar projects as assigned. Prepare athletic fields for use as directed. Ensure park restrooms and public facilities are in good condition. Clean park shelters as needed and empty trash barrels. Paint lines and install nets. Inspect and repair playground equipment. Trim trees and bushes, clean and maintain park fountain and wash vehicles as needed. 

High school diploma or GED required. Mechanical aptitude required. Ability to safely operate equipment is required. 

$11.00 per hour. Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license to be eligible.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL FIT KIDS COUNSELOR

The City of Harrisonville is currently taking applications for the position of Before and After School Fit Kids Counselor. 

We are looking for applicants that will have the flexibility to work; Morning Shift from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.; Evening Shift from 3 p.m./4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This position is weekly, Monday through Friday. 

Job Description: Assists the Recreation Coordinator & Camp Coordinator with youth program supervision. Staff will be expected to monitor youth programming at all times to ensure their safety; provide necessary instructions to implement activities; provide a friendly, caring environment; record any incidents/accidents as needed; provide exceptional customer service to all patrons of the facilities - especially parents of the children; set up and clean up all activities in various locations; provide age appropriate support and guidance to children at all times; incorporate and enforce all Harrisonville Community Center policies, rules, and regulations.

First Aid/CPR certification is preferred, but not required. 

Hiring preference will be given to candidates that have prior experience with children and a flexible schedule.

FRONT DESK/TOT-WATCH ATTENDANT 

(Must be able to work HCC opening shift starting weekdays at 5:20 a.m.; Sat. at 6:50 a.m. & Sun. at 9:50 a.m.)

Staff will provide customer service to all members and guests at the Harrisonville Community Center; oversee check in of members; assist in operation of photo ID computer to produce and distribute badges; operate cash register; register clients for memberships, classes & programs; answer and transfer phone calls; assist with the upkeep of the front desk as well as the upkeep of the fitness floor.

Must enjoy working with children and be willing to rotate between the front desk and tot-watch.

Position is limited to 25 hours per week at a rate of $10.30 per hour. Hours of operation are M-Thurs. 5:30 a.m. - 9 p.m., Fri. 5:30 a.m. - 8 p.m., Sat. 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sun. 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. 

Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license to be eligible to work at the Front Desk. Preference will be given to those individuals with computer experience.
