Patty Hilderbrand hired as Public Works Director

The City of Harrisonville is excited to announce the hiring of Patty Hilderbrand as Public Works Director.

The decision to hire Hilderbrand came as current Public Works Director/City Engineer Carl Brooks has moved into the role of Director of Engineering. Hilderbrand will enter her new position on October 23, 2023.

Hilderbrand comes to Harrisonville after over 26 years working for the City of Kansas City, MO Public Works Department. 

During her time with Kansas City, she worked in many areas across the department including managing flood mitigation and major capital projects, bicycle & pedestrian accommodations, managing the capital improvement program, securing federal funds and implementing city-wide project controls and asset management systems. She also directed the City’s annual transit program with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA), coordinated programs with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and all counties and agencies and served as the Quality Assurance Manager for the KC Streetcar Main Street Extension project.

Patty earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Kansas and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri and Kansas.

Patty is actively involved in the American Public Works Association (APWA) at both the local and national levels.  She has worked in the areas of government affairs, emergency managements, homeland security, leadership & management and was elected Director-at-large for Engineering & Technology on the National Board of Directors. She currently serves on the Executive Committee for the KC Metro Chapter. She also utilized her passion for sustainability to help found the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) by helping to initiate the Envision framework to advance sustainable infrastructure and eventually serving on the ISI Board of Directors.

Patty has received numerous awards including APWA’s national Top 10 Public Works Leader of the Year in 2017 and the WTS Woman of the Year in Kansas City in 2021.

Patty supports several organizations with her time and talents including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Worldwide Marriage Encounter. Patty has been married to her husband Matt for 29 years and has two children.
